“Hi there, my name is Ashley Buss (@ashleymariebuss). I am an advertising and marketing student (in my final semester!) at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. I have grown up dancing competitively and I am now a D1 collegiate dancer for my university. As a dancer, I make appearances at community events, perform at our university’s nationally televised games, and travel with our teams for tournaments. In my free time, I enjoy decompressing with yoga, photography or doing almost any active outdoor activity.

For me, skincare begins with hydration. With my active and busy lifestyle, it absolutely essential for me to stay hydrated. There are obviously many benefits to drinking water, but one of the primary reasons I hydrate on a daily basis is for my skin. I also help keep my skin hydrated by applying moisturizer right after showering.

My morning routine begins with me washing my face with Aveeno’s Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser. After cleansing, I apply Neutrogena’s Alcohol-Free Toner with a cotton ball and then I use Lancôme’s Energie de Vie Moisturizer. This moisturizer is great to use during the day because it is very lightweight, whereas some moisturizers can be very thick and can make your skin appear oily. Before applying makeup, I lightly tap to apply Burt’s Bees Nourishment Facial Oil.

For my day to day makeup routine, I start by applying Pixi by Petra’s Illuminating Tint & Conceal. I use this tinted moisturizer rather than foundation because it gives me a natural glowing look. For my eyebrows, I use powder from the “Photo Matte Eyes” Smashbox to fill and then I use Pixi by Petra’s Natural Brown Brow Gel. I curl my eyelashes and use a clean mascara wand and apply Vaseline. (Sometimes I will do the same for my eyebrows rather than using a brow gel.)

I enjoy having the minimal makeup look when I can, but being a collegiate dancer requires full make-up for performances and game days. On days I have to perform, I use Lancôme’s Teint Idole Ultra Wear full-coverage foundation. I then use Anastasia’s Light to Medium Powder Contour Kit to contour my face. I use my “Photo Matte Eyes” Smashbox for my eyeshadow and eyebrows. I prime my eyelashes with Lancôme’s Cils Booster XL before applying Lancôme’s Grandiose Mascara. I then use Lancôme’s Artliner on my upper eyelid.

My nightly skin routine starts by removing any makeup with Lancôme’s Bi-Facil Makeup remover. I cleanse with the Aveeno Foaming Cleanser after that. Once or twice a week, I exfoliate my skin with a towel, then apply 100% Aloe Vera Gel all over my face & neck. I also use a small brush to apply castor oil to my eyelashes and eye brows to moisturize and promote growth.

I love having long natural-looking eyelashes. I currently use Vaseline and castor oil to care for them in a natural and cost-effective way. In the past, I have used Peter Thomas Roth’s Eyelash Serum and achieved the spidery long lashes that I adore. If you can afford serums, I highly recommend this one.

The final piece of my routine is a weekly face mask on Sunday nights. I do this to unwind from the week and reset for the new one. It always makes my skin feel and look great.”
