“Hi there, my name is Naiia (pronounced “na-HEE-yuh”, @naiialajoie), originally from Montreal, Canada and now living in Venice Beach, California. I live, eat, sleep, & breathe the entertainment and marketing industries. I work primarily as an actor, as well as a repped model, an automotive spokesperson, a host, a princess performer, a professional mermaid, and write for an international magazine. In my spare time (should it ever occur) I volunteer for ocean conservation causes and with a cat rescue group.

I live a fairly hectic lifestyle and as such I don’t always get the most or best of sleep, which is why I balance it with healthy(ish) eating (whenever possible, I’m on the road A LOT) and daily skin routines. After waking-up I wash my face with Differin Gentle Cleanser. Next I apply coconut oil to wrinkle-prone areas, like my forehead, under my eyes, laugh-lines, and on my neck in an upward motion. Then I put on Differin Soothing Moisturizer. Before getting into my makeup application, I use Select Lash Eyelash Serum; I have pretty thick & full eyelashes naturally, but this helps with NOT having to use falsies since a lot of my jobs would typically entail me wearing fake eyelashes (which I’m not a fan of…and am pretty useless at applying). You can find the serum at any 99 Cents Only Store and I SWEAR by it!

Now I’m not really one to shop exclusively for makeup nor am I a professional makeup-artist by any means, so a lot of my products come from MUA friends getting rid of stock or are gifted to me by my Mum who lives overseas. If it’s a day/gig that requires a full face of makeup, I start with an SPF primer, then apply Trish McEvoy’s Instant Eye Lift beneath my eyes (covers-up any eye-bags & dark circles I may have). Next I fill-in my brows, then apply Max Factor’s Lasting Performance foundation. It lasts, it’s light, it doesn’t crease, and it covers-up tattoos REALLY well (I use it on my ankle tat while working corporate jobs or with children).

Next I use 3 different shades of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ concealer; a darker one to contour, a lighter one to highlight around the chin, nose, & lip, and then the lightest one beneath the eyes. I use VERY little so as not to cake it on. Before applying whatever color/brand eye-shadow I plan on using, I use Trish McEvoy’s Eye Base Essentials, top it off with The Estee Edit Up & Out Mascara, continue-onto blush (my fav is Laura Mercier), choose from far too many lipsticks to wear atop my Aerin Lip Conditioner, and finish-off with a dusting of scented baby powder for that “pressed” look.

On days-off when I feel like hitting the beach & surfing, scuba-diving, or practicing my “mermaiding”, I begin by applying Reef Safe’s Biodegradable Sunscreen (which doesn’t cause coral bleaching & isn’t harmless to the aquatic ecosystem) and putting coconut oil in my hair in order to prevent sun/salt damage. Once I exit the water, I rinse-off at home with Olay’s Total Effects Advanced Anti-Aging Body Wash, and once dried-off apply some Biodegradable Reef Safe Eternal Summer After Sun Moisturizer (also environmentally friendly).

At night, I essentially revisit the morning process with Differn’s cleanser & moisturizer, only I apply a small amount of the Differin Gel to problem spots. Given teeth are just as important (if not more so!) than the overall aesthetics, I use a whitening pre-brush mouthwash, Crest’s Gum Detoxify toothpaste, floss, and rinse with regular mouthwash. Once a week I also use a whitening pen, as well as an activated-charcoal facial scrub. On weeks where I’m ESPECIALLY tired/busy & looking pretty run-down, I’ll incorporate a face mask, eye masks, and/or nose strips (for pores).

And FINALLY, RIGHT before bed, I tend to scars with Dr. Sheffield’s Scar Gel, use Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Massage Lotion to prevent/lessen existing stretch marks (they’re there! Which is why the Palmer’s comes in handy…), and end with Jergens Natural Glow + Firming Daily Moisturizer for the body & Jergens Natural Glow Face Daily Moisturizer for my face. I know that sounds like a lot of stuff adding-up, but in dry environments like planes, hotels, studios, & convention centers, my skins craves it & soaks it ALL up!

I’ve never chronologged “a day in the life” of my health & beauty routines, so it makes me realize just how involved I am with the upkeep of my. BUT, all of this just goes to show that I apply the same meticulousness in aesthetic upkeep as I do all of my jobs. I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t enjoy it – and ultimately, I’m doing it for ME. It truly makes me happy that I can keep busy & make it look effortless, while wearing – most importantly – a genuine smile. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing! Even my cat has 4 different brushes as a part of his maintenance routine."
